Authors: Pappim, Chuenjai
Abstract: This study aimed to: 1) discover the types of politeness strategies employed in commencement speeches by Taylor Swift and Chadwick Boseman, 2) compare the politeness strategies found in the two speeches and 3) analyze the use of politeness strategies in the two speeches. The theoretical framework for the textual analysis and frequency counting was based on the six maxims of politeness proposed by Leech (1983).
The data consisted of Taylor Swift's commencement speech at New York University and Chadwick Boseman's at Howard University. The data was collected from the official YouTube channels of each University and analyzed by using textual analysis to determine the type of politeness strategies. The maxims of politeness were counted and revealed as frequency and percentage. Subsequently, the results were compared to find the differences applications.
The study results revealed that six maxims were employed in both commencement speeches. Generosity maxim was the most frequently applied in Taylor Swift’s speech while Approbation maxim was the most frequently applied in Chadwick Boseman’s speech. Despite the differences in dominant maxims, both speeches shared the same top three maxims: Tact, Generosity, and Approbation, indicating the similar purpose of the speeches.

Title: A Study on the Factors Influencing the Fertility Intention of the Population in Sichuan Province, China
Authors: He, Haidong
Abstract: In response to the increasing population and changing social environment in China, a comprehensive policy of permitting two children or three children per family has been introduced to increase the birth rate. However, despite these efforts, the birth rate has continued to decline in recent years, as evidenced by statistics from 2018 to 2021. The research aim of this survey study was to investigate and analyze the factors that impact fertility intention in Sichuan province, China.
The population of Sichuan province was selected as the study sample. By reviewing existing research results, a hypothesis was proposed to determine the factors that affect the birth rate. A random sampling survey method was used, and an existing data analysis software was used to analyze the collected samples using methods, including reliability, validity, and linear regression. The analysis revealed that rearing costs, social welfare, career development, and social concepts significantly influenced fertility intention. Among these factors, career development, social beliefs, and social welfare emerged as important predictors of fertility intention with the highest value of descriptive statistics.
The findings indicated that there was a significant relationship between rearing cost, social welfare, career development, social concept, and fertility intention, thus achieving the research objectives. The results could be used as a reference for the government to develop public policies aimed at improving fertility intention and provide a research foundation for future studies.

Title: An Analysis of Factors Influencing the Work Efficiency of Student Cadres in a University
Authors: Ma, Zheyao
Abstract: Student cadres are the main force of student work in universities and the “key minority” among students. The efficiency of student cadres in universities directly affects the overall process of student work.
This study was conducted at Haiana Tropical Ocean University, China, the school where the author works. The research objectives are to: 1) survey factors of role productivity and work efficiency of student cadres in a university, 2) analyze the factors that influence the work efficiency of student cadres in a university, and 3) propose a new model for the work efficiency of student cadres in a university. The research method, a combination of qualitative and quantitative research, were literature review, semi structured interviews, qualitative surveys, and a combination of random sampling and stratified sampling techniques. Questionnaires and interviews were used as data collection tools. A total of 630 questionnaires were distributed and 623 questionnaires were collected, with a recovery rate of 98.8%. There were 616 valid questionnaires, with an effective rate of 97.7%. This study used an analysis software to conduct descriptive statistics, reliability and validity analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis (stepwise).
The formula for the work efficiency model of university student cadres proposed in this study was: Work efficiency = 0.263+0.096* leadership + 0.297* execution + 0.071* learning + 0.320* credibility + 0.166* innovation. When conducting an F-test on the model, it was found that the model had passed the F-test (F=1147.268, p<0.05). The research results revealed that leadership, executive force, learning ability, credibility, and innovation had a significant positive impact on work efficiency.
