Influence of Quality of Work Life on Nurses’ Job Satisfaction

Abstract

This independent study aimed to investigate: 1) demographic factors affecting nurses’ job satisfaction and 2) quality of work life affecting nurses’ job satisfaction. The population of this study consisted of nurses working in three large tertiary hospitals in Shanghai, China, from which 405 nurses were selected using simple random sampling. The research instrument used for collecting data was a questionnaire, which was tested for reliability and validity. Statistical analysis of the data was performed using descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, and F-test while the relationship between the three variables was determined by correlation analysis and regression analysis. The study found that: 1) different demographic characteristics among nurses have an impact on employee job satisfaction, and 2) the quality of work life plays a key role in the evaluation of nurses' job satisfaction. Indeed, good quality of work life can significantly improve employee satisfaction at the statistically significant level of .05.
